Live at the Metro Theatre, Sydney. This show from these English indie legends was captured in 2010 around the time of the release of their third album The Runaway. They were in Australia for the 2010 Splendour In The Grass festival and we were lucky enough to capture them at a small club sideshow on that tour. Oh, and they also played Glastonbury that year. -
Named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano, the American rock formation that is The Melvins are seen as "The Godfathers of grunge music” and we couldn’t agree more. Check them out live at Enmore Theatre in Sydney on 28 February 2011 -
Live at the Factory Theatre, Sydney. The Necks defy categorisation. Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums), and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms. These three musicians are among the most respected and in-demand in Australia and internationally, working in every field from pop to avant-garde. Check out their relatively recent collaboration with electronic legends Underworld on the epic 47 min track Appleshine Continuum to see what we mean. Featuring lengthy pieces which are totally improvised and slowly unravel in the most intoxicating fashion, frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, no two performances are ever the same. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks remains among the most unique in the world today. This show from 2008, entitled ‘Guelph’, is just one facet of this extraordinary band. (And apologies – as it’s a single ‘song’, we can’t split out any free track for this one!) -
Live at Enmore Theatre in Sydney. The classic rockers treated Sydney’s Enmore Theatre to an evening of big hits in 2010, proving their status as music legends. The show was a double header with Blondie - also filmed by Moshcam and available here for your viewing pleasure! Can there be too many hits in one night? -
Live at the Metro Theatre, Sydney. Sprinkling their impassioned brand of alternative rock with touches of screamo, pop-punk, and metal, the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus was originally born in 2003 in Middleburg, Florida. We filmed this show in 2009 after they'd performed multiple festival shows as part of Soundwave. The strain of the tour shows a little we think, but still a great show. -
Live at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney. One of Australia’s most loved bands who continue to build global momentum. We caught this sensational Enmore Theatre show in 2013 off the back of their self-titled debut album from 2012. With its infectious sweet blues grooves and soulful swagger, that album hit number three on the Aussie charts and earned them a worldwide major label deal outside of Australia. -
Live at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney. We’re long time fans of this great Australian band who we last filmed in 2013. After such a long time and so many great songs since then (not to mention a shutdown of the live scene for the best part of two years), 2022 seemed like the perfect time to catch up with them again as part of our World Stage project – and they really delivered at this sold out show! -
Live at the Metro Theatre, Sydney. One of the great Irish rock bands (although perhaps not quite as well known as that other famous Irish band from the 80s!) The Saw Doctors, perhaps not surprisingly, inject a strong Celtic feel into their music (but they’re not a folk band!). Formed by Leo Moran and Davy Carton, the only two constants of the band over the decades, they once held the record for Ireland’s biggest-selling single of all time, “I Useta Lover,” (featured in this set) which topped the Irish charts for a massive nine weeks in 1990 (back when that really counted for something, based as it was on physical sales!). They experienced a career resurgence in the late 2000s following their Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 Irish Music Awards and the subsequent release of a ‘best of’ compilation in 2009 (which went platinum just weeks after release). We caught them in Australia in 2010 off the back of this increased profile for the band. They’re still around - in fact, they’re playing dates in the UK and the US in late 2022, so the release of this show is nothing if not timely! -
Live at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney. A band that needs almost no introduction to aficionados of ‘garage rock’, it was The Sonics from Tacoma, Washington, back in 1963, who paved the path with their first single ‘The Witch’. The group’s persistence and passion led to the release of even more fiery tracks including ‘Cinderella’, ‘Shot Down’ and fan-favourite ‘Psycho’. While calling it quits five years later, reuniting briefly in 1972 and again in 1980, this allowed the rock revolution to take hold. Artists ranging from Nirvana to Mudhoney (already here on Moshcam!), The Hives (also here!) and The White Stripes cited them as an influence. Captured here in 2012, when they joined the Hoodoo Gurus ‘invitational’ Dig It Up, the band showed why they’re still held in such high regard. Age has definitely not wearied them! As band member Robert Lind told us a few years later (on a subsequent tour of Australia): “We’re not mechanical, we play hard and with everything that we have. Our understanding now (and always has been) is that those people are paying thirty to forty dollars to come see us and all we have to do is play one set for an hour. We’ll go out there and give them everything we’ve got.” Say no more! -
Live at Annandale Hotel. One of the things we love at Moshcam is the experience of coming across amazing new acts that seem to come out of nowhere - they stand apart from the rest with an energy that is impossible to ignore. Melbourne's The Temper Trap definitely fell into that category for us. Emerging in the mid 2000s, it was a stunning performance at St Jerome's Laneway Festival in March 2006 that signalled their 'arrival' as serious players. Their debut EP was a brilliant opening statement from a band that were destined to achieve great things – and their subsequent album releases only confirmed their talent. A keen ear for melody, matched by infectious rhythms and symphonic, arresting guitars, the band further separated from the pack by lead singer Dougie's captivating, unique vocals. Not much has been heard of them as a band in recent times (but they ain’t alone there during these crazy COVID times!). We very much hope we haven’t heard the last of these guys. In the meantime, check out this show we caught back in 2009. A year later they were playing in a venue five times the size (Enmore Theatre) and we caught that show as well (which we’ll bring you soon). -
Live at The Metro Theatre, Sydney. The Vines had it all in front of them with the release of their debut album ‘Highly Evolved’ in 2002 - including an NME Single of the Week (for the title track), an appearance on the cover of Rolling Stone (the first Australian artist since Men At Work in 1983 to achieve that) and a number 11 album on the US charts. With a ‘90s spin on '60s garage rock they were an unstoppable and frenetic live force. That stellar debut was always going to be a hard act to follow, singer/songwriter/guitarist Craig Nicholls continued to push his artistic vision and their live performances remained nothing less than hypnotic. This short and sharp show, from 2007, followed the release of their 3rd album ‘Vision Valley’. -
Live at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney. For those who came in late, the road looms large and long in the Waifs’ inspirational tale of self-determined international success. It intersected for sisters Donna and Vikki and guitarist Josh in a remote corner of the Western Australian desert in the early 90s. This big theatre show from 2008 shows how far they'd come. -
Live at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney. We’d already filmed the band way back when on one of their first Australian tours. That was 2008, so we were chuffed to see the band almost 7 years later, this time selling out a venue almost 10 times as big. To do the gig justice, we brought in 6 camera operators, as well as a camera attached to a 40-foot crane. Safe to say, it was an epic gig that evoked memories of Beatlemania. (Just wait till you see how nuts the crowd goes in this one!). The band put on an absolute clinic in indie rock, blazing through their biggest anthems with an electrifying energy. Cap it off with a roof-raising rendition of “Let’s Dance to Joy Division” and you’ve got one of our favourite shows of 2015. -
Live at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney. One of the giants of the British alternative scene, driven primarily by Miles Hunt (the songwriter, guitarist and vocalist), the band initially broke up in 1994. But you can’t keep a good songwriter down and Hunt reformed the band in 2000 and, in one form or another, they’re still going today. We captured this show in 2011 when they were touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their third studio album ‘Never Loved Elvis’. -
The Xcerts were originally formed by 13 year olds Murray Macleod and Jordan Smith after meeting in the headmasters room at their school in Aberdeen. That rebellious spirit bred the incredible sonic barrage that formulated the career of The Xcerts - see them live at Koko in London on 23 March 2012
