Live at Sydney Festival, Sydney. Consistently led by Kristin Hersh since their formation, Throwing Muses pioneered a thrillingly raucous form of ‘alt rock’ years before the term existed. Their extraordinarily textured, tempo-shifting music, combined with Kirstin’s intuitive, dextrous singing, joins the dots between elliptical post-punk, harmonious folk jangle pop and rockabilly thunder. Touring and collaborating with the likes of The Pixies and REM’s Michael Stipe gives you an idea of where they sit in the world. This show from 2009 (when they performed at the Sydney Festival) is a great demonstration of their arresting melodic structures and articulate songcraft.
