Hugh Cornwell

Live at Echoplex, Los Angeles. It was a night built on timeless British punk rock. Two legendary musicians and old friends – Stranglers ex-frontman Hugh Cornwell and former Sex Pistols’ bassist Glen Matlock and songwriter– playing back-to-back shows at Los Angeles’ intimate Echoplex venue. Both were in brilliant form and Moshcam was there to film them exclusively at this show in 2012. After Matlock delivered a gloriously gutsy set (coming soon!), Cornwell kicked off his set with a “Stranglers sandwich”, moving from the rough-edged ‘Toiler On the Sea’ to “a crunchy morsel from ‘Hooverdam’ (‘Wrong Side Of The Tracks’) and on to a stomping rendition of ‘Goodbye Toulouse’ from their 1977 debut ‘Rattus Norvegicus’. Along with a bevy of songs from his vast solo catalogue, he also delivered much-loved Stranglers hits including (of course!) ‘No More Heroes’, ‘Peaches‘ and his seductive masterpiece, ‘Golden Brown’. At the end, Cornwell invited “hero” Glen Matlock back on stage for a raucous rendition of Mose Alison’s jazzy number ‘The Seventh Son’ and had all the old punks in the room in the palm of their hand. Join the party and watch the full gig now!
